Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition causing skin inflammation and the rapid buildup of skin cells, resulting in thick, scaly patches, often on the elbows, knees, and scalp, that can be itchy and painful.
Types of Psoriasis include:
Plaque psoriasis: The most common type, characterized by raised, red patches covered with silvery scales.
Guttate psoriasis: Appears as small, droplet-like lesions, often triggered by a streptococcal infection.
Inverse psoriasis: Affects skin folds, such as the armpits, groin, and under the breasts, and can be mistaken for a fungal infection.
Pustular psoriasis: Causes pus-filled blisters on the skin.
Erythrodermic psoriasis: A severe form that affects almost the entire body surface.
Scalp psoriasis: Affects the scalp, causing itching and flaking.
Nail psoriasis: Affects the nails, causing pitting, thickening, and discoloration.
Psoriatic arthritis: A form of arthritis that can develop in some people with psoriasis, affecting joints.
